Privacy policy
1. Who runs this site
WildDigest is an independent editorial project published from Australia at https://wilddigest.com/main.html. For any question about this policy or about the personal information we hold, write to editor@wilddigest.com. We answer within ten business days.
We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. If you are reading from outside Australia, the same practices apply to you.
2. What we collect
- Newsletter data. The email address you enter in the subscription form, the name you optionally provide, and the fact that you ticked the consent box.
- Push notification identifiers. If you allow browser notifications, our provider stores an anonymous subscription identifier for your browser together with the browser type and approximate region.
- Technical log data. IP address, user agent, referring page, date and time of the request. These are generated automatically by the hosting infrastructure.
- Cookies and similar storage. Small records placed in your browser, described in the cookie policy, including your choice on the cookie notice.
- Reading plan data. If you ask for a paid reading plan, we record the plan you chose and the email address to contact you at. Card details are handled by the payment provider and never reach our servers.
We do not ask for a phone number, a postal address, or any sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 15.
3. Why we use it
- To send the WildDigest newsletter you asked for, and nothing else. Basis: your consent.
- To deliver browser notifications about new editions. Basis: your consent, given twice — once on the form and once in the browser permission prompt.
- To keep the site available, secure and free of abuse. Basis: our legitimate interest in running the service.
- To understand which reviews are read, in aggregate. Basis: your consent for analytics storage.
- To arrange, bill and support a paid reading plan when you request one. Basis: performance of the agreement between us.
- To meet record-keeping duties that Australian law places on us. Basis: legal obligation.
4. Advertising on this site
WildDigest carries advertising placements, including promoted listings that link to Google Play. Advertising partners may set their own cookies or read advertising identifiers to measure whether a placement was seen or clicked. We do not sell your email address to advertisers and we do not upload our subscriber list to any advertising network. Categories and durations are listed in the cookie policy.
5. Who else sees the data
- Hosting and content delivery providers — to serve the pages and images you request.
- OneSignal — our push notification and newsletter provider. It processes your email address, the tags attached to your record (domain, name and the source of the sign-up) and your push subscription identifier, strictly on our instructions.
- Analytics providers — aggregate reading statistics, with identifiers truncated where the tool allows it.
- Advertising partners — for placement measurement, as described above.
- Payment provider — once card billing for reading plans is switched on, it will process the payment data required to complete a charge.
- Authorities — only where a valid Australian legal request obliges us to disclose.
Some of these providers operate servers outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles the information in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
6. How long we keep it
- Newsletter records: until you unsubscribe, plus 30 days for the removal to propagate.
- Push subscription identifiers: until you revoke the permission in your browser or clear site data.
- Server logs: up to 12 months.
- Reading plan and billing records: seven years, as required by Australian tax and record-keeping rules.
- Cookie preference: up to 12 months, or until you clear your browser storage.
7. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may ask us to give you access to the personal information we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, to delete it where we have no ongoing reason to keep it, and to stop using it for direct marketing. Every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and browser notifications can be switched off in your browser settings at any time. Send any request to editor@wilddigest.com.
If you are not satisfied with how we handled your request, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the national privacy regulator, at oaic.gov.au or by phone on 1300 363 992.
8. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the subscriber list is limited to the editors who send the newsletter and is protected by multi-factor authentication. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed as perfectly secure, but we review our providers and our access list at least once a year.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and move the date at the top. Material changes that affect an existing consent will be announced in the newsletter before they take effect.
This version takes effect on 17 August 2026.
